Beneficiary Selected for OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon 2017

Wednesday, February 08, 2017

Houston, Texas, USA (8 February 2017) – The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) announces the 2017 beneficiary of the OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon: Oilfield Helping Hands.

OTC will host the Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, 2 May 2017 at NRG Center in Houston. The event recognizes industry achievements, raises funds for a worthy cause, and provides an excellent opportunity for industry leaders to network with colleagues from around the world.

“We’re proud to name Oilfield Helping Hands as this year’s beneficiary. The event’s Executive Advisory Board was most impressed by the organization’s commitment to helping families that have been a part of our industry and have hit hard times,” says Joe Fowler, Chairman, OTC Board of Directors.

“Specifically, Oilfield Helping Hands assists families in financial crisis due to medical and other serious circumstances. It works diligently to keep costs low to ensure as much money as possible can go directly toward benefitting the families. We’re happy to support this cause as its work fulfills one of OTC’s visions,” Fowler continues.

Oilfield Helping Hands started in 2003 when several Halliburton Baroid employees organized a sporting clay tournament to benefit an employee whose family savings had been depleted by several serious, expensive medical treatments. The event was so successful that the group decided to continue their efforts and began recruiting operator and oilfield service companies to join them. Today, Oilfield Helping Hands Houston holds five annual fundraising events and has expanded with multiple chapters across the country.

“The OTC Distinguished Achievement Awards Luncheon does more than just support great causes in the industry, it also raises awareness about them. We’re beyond proud that Oilfield Helping Hands has been chosen as this year’s beneficiary and know this honor will have a positive impact on the lives and well being of several worthy families in need,” added Gregory Rachal, President, Oilfield Helping Hands, whose organization has distributed more than USD 3.3 million to hundreds of families since its inception.

“Thanks to OTC, we are confident that we’ll be able to support even more oilfield families experiencing financial crisis,” concluded Rachal.

Because of the support of industry-leading companies, a total of USD 1,400,000 has been donated to charitable organizations over the previous five years. Past recipients are Medical Bridges, Offshore Energy Center, Engineers without Borders, Gulf of Mexico Foundation, the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) and the Petroleum Equipment & Services Association (PESA) Energy Education Center for the benefit of the Energy Institute High School and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas.
