Thursday, October 22, 2015

Considered one of the largest events in oil and gas industry in the world, OTC Brasil happens for the third time in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (14 October 2015) – Between 27 and 29 October, Rio de Janeiro will host OTC Brasil 2015, one of the most important offshore oil and gas industry events in the world. Held for the third time in the country, the conference is chaired by João Carlos de Luca, of IBP, with Orlando Ribeiro, of Petrobras, and Fernando Frimm, of GustoMSC, serving as co-chairman.

With the theme "The Atlantic: from east to west - An Ocean of Innovation", this year’s event will encompass offshore oil and gas exploration and development topics related to geology and subsurface technologies, offshore drilling and wells system, floating structures, and advanced subsea production to keep offshore facilities operating safely and efficiently. Among the confirmed speakers are Petrobras Director of Exploration and Production, Solange Guedes; Petrobras Libra Executive Manager, Anelise Lara; and Pemex E&P General Director, Gustavo Hernández-García.

"This is third edition of OTC Brasil, what proves the importance of the country on the global stage of oil and gas industry. The partnership between IBP and OTC has become stronger over the years and our expectation is to gather top experts and industry executives to learn about the latest technological advances and discuss business prospects globally," said João Carlos de Luca, OTC Brasil Oversight Committee Chairman.

Held every two years, OTC Brasil presents a robust technical program with 39 technical sessions, 12 panels and four thematic luncheons. More than 220 papers selected by industry experts will be presented, covering topics in geoscience, drilling systems, subsea processing and asset integrity, among others.

This premier event will take place at Riocentro, and will be attended by E&P executives and industry experts from 24 countries. The exhibition will have over 150 companies and organizations, from 16 countries.

Among the innovations this year is the "University R&D Showcase" a program in which 11 Brazilian universities and research centers will present new technologies that are being developed for the industry.

The "Distinguished Achievement Award" and the "Spotlight on New TechnologiesSM Award," traditional OTC awards in the US, will be held at OTC Brasil for the first time to recognize professional and outstanding companies in the offshore E&P sector.

One of the highlights of the first day event is the luncheon "Megaprojects in the oil and gas industry." The presentation will be given by the Founder and President of Independent Project Analysis (IPA), Edward Merrow, who will address financial aspects in highly complex projects.
On 28 October, IBP president, Jorge Camargo, and E&P Executive Manager for Libra PSC, Anelise Lara, at Petrobras, will participate in the panel "Professional Societies Leadership Summit," an opportunity for leaders to meet informally and participate in a panel session discussion named “The Role of Professional Societies in Integrating Multidisciplinary Technologies.”

The "Professional of the Future" program, dedicated exclusively to technical and college students, is also featured in this day agenda and also in the next day. Wednesday luncheon will have a presentation of Petrobras E&P Director, Solange Guedes, on the development of the Brazilian pre-salt and technological innovation projects in ultra-deep waters.

On 29 October, Anelise Lara will talk about pre-salt performance and innovations, in a panel about Libra Field and next generation projects in this new frontier of Brazilian exploration. With focus on business in Mexico, the last luncheon will bring Pemex E&P General Director, Gustavo Hernández-García, who will address the opportunities in the Mexican sector after the market opening. The prospects for oil prices on the global stage will also be discussed in another luncheon, presented by Atul Arya, IHS vice president.
