Letter from Leigh Ann Runyan

Thank you for another safe and successful year at the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston.

While this year was undoubtedly different from previous events, the last year provided an opportunity for us to reset, recharge, and reevaluate what makes OTC a valuable experience for all who attend. Whether you are an energy professional, global leader, exhibitor, student, or media, we believe OTC has something special to offer.

First and foremost, through our robust thought leadership program, OTC creates a space to convene the best and brightest minds to discuss, deliberate and debate the most pressing challenges facing our industry. Technology continues to be our driving compass and we saw the industry’s innovations and technological advances from oil and gas, solar, wind, hydrogen and other resources on display this year in our technical sessions and in the many interactive booths on the exhibit floor. Our technical program, in particular, helps propel the technologies that will define the future of energy and the energy transition within the offshore sector.

And though we will continue to strive to be the most prominent offshore energy event, we know bigger does not always mean better. Despite a reduced footprint this year, OTC spurred valuable networking and interpersonal connections among exhibitors, attendees and panelists.

This year we also featured several new partnerships and programs:

  • For the first time, OTC and NAPE Summit joined forces for the “Synergy in Energy” partnership. Together, the two events offered a combo pass to both conferences and hosted a joint “fireside chat” with two top executives from Equinor and BPX Energy to discuss the energy transition.
  • OTC kicked off its Emerging Leaders Program, recognizing the inaugural class of young professionals who demonstrated significant contributions to the offshore energy sector through service, innovation, and a focus on safety.
  • Through our Executive Dialogue Series, leaders from around the world shared experiences and discussed the most pressing issues facing the offshore sector.

I am thankful for the attendees, exhibitors, sponsors, and media who participated both in-person and online. You all are the reason OTC has been and continues to be a first-in-class forum for offshore energy resources, developments and solutions. As a not-for-profit organization, each OTC continues to fund societies and organizations nurturing our energy professionals and academics around the world. And as the industry continues to address the dual challenges of mitigating climate change and meeting the world’s energy needs, OTC will continue to be at the fulcrum of these discussions.

In the coming months, Paul Jones, Principal at Lockbridge Energy and current Vice Chairman of the OTC Board of Directors, will transition into the role of Board Chairman. With more than 30 years of spearheading technological developments and R&D at Chevron, Paul will be invaluable to making OTC 2022 a success.

Next year’s conference is just around the corner. The lessons we learned in 2021 will inform OTC 2022 this coming May as we work together to have the best OTC to date. See you 2–5 May for OTC 2022!

Sincerely,

LAR Signature
