Six-year partnership provides awareness, education, and outreach to end human trafficking

Houston, Texas, USA (19 February 2020) — The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) will continue its partnership with United Against Human Trafficking (UAHT), marking the sixth year in which the conference supports the Houston-based organization to end human trafficking.

Through this partnership, OTC 2020 attendees and exhibitors can learn more about UAHT and the warning signs of human trafficking at their educational booth, located in NRG Center, Level 1, Hall D, each day of the conference. In addition, UAHT has been chosen as the beneficiary at the 2020 Distinguished Achievement Awards Event scheduled for Monday, 4 May and will receive net proceeds of the event as a result.

“Human trafficking is an unfortunate reality with more than 300,000 victims in Texas alone and nearly 25 million globally,” OTC Board of Directors Chair Cindy Yeilding said. “Our goal is to educate our global audience and support UAHT in their efforts to end this violation of human rights and empower survivors. We also look forward to the philanthropic impact that can be made at this year’s conference with UAHT.”

UAHT provides the Houston community with education about trafficking through support groups and programs on prevention and awareness. It is the organization's goal to provide a trauma-informed approach to institutions, business professionals and first responders in aiding survivors, bringing awareness to the community and prevention. UAHT has contributed their great work to the Houston area for more than 12 years.

“Our mission at United Against Human Trafficking is to educate the community on how trafficking situations can be spotted and prevented,” UAHT Executive Director Timeka Walker said. “We are grateful to OTC for their continued support and giving us a medium to spread our word on ending human exploitation.”
