RICHARDSON, Texas, U.S.A. (25 April 2003) –
Approximately 200 high school students will tour the exhibition
at the 2003 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), scheduled 5 -
8 May, at Reliant Center. OTC provides opportunities for Houston-area
students to learn about the offshore industry, and in return the
tours allow OTC and the industry to create interest among the students
to pursue careers in the oil and gas industry.
OTC will host students from Houston-area high
schools including Aldine Senior, Cleveland, East Bernard, Navasota,
Richards, and Scarborough High Schools. Following the tours, students
are invited to a luncheon with OTC .03 Chairman Charlie Richards.
Richards will discuss the importance of student involvement and
express his appreciation for the students’ attendance.
“Having the students attend OTC helps offshore
companies attract young, fresh minds to the offshore industry. OTC
has an exhibition that shows every aspect of the industry and is
sure to build interest among participating students,” said
Richards. “For the first time this year, OTC also will host
group tours for disabled students. There are a number of gifted
students with disabilities who are interested in the industry and
deserve to come out to the show. We want to do all that we can to
encourage them.”
Students also have the opportunity to ask questions
about careers in engineering and other aspects of the exhibition
during the lunch hour.
OTC continually creates opportunities for younger
talent to become involved in the offshore industry. College students
are invited to attend OTC at no charge, with a valid student ID.
These students attend seeking knowledge, information, and contacts
that can help them and their career in the E&P industry.
Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference
is the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore
resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production, and
environmental protection. OTC is held annually in May at Reliant
Center at Reliant Park in Houston. For more information, visit www.OTCnet.org.
