OTC Announces Harry Longwell of ExxonMobil As Keynote Speaker for 2002 Awards Luncheon

RICHARDSON, Texas, U.S.A. (28 March 2002) – Harry J. Longwell, Executive Vice President of Exxon Mobil Corp., will deliver the Keynote Address at the 2002 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, 7 May, at the Reliant Center in Houston.

Longwell’s remarks will highlight the 34th OTC, which annually draws approximately 45,000 oil and gas professionals to the world’s premier offshore oil and gas conference and exhibition. The OTC Awards Luncheon and the Keynote Address are considered the centerpiece events for the conference, scheduled for 6-9 May.

“Harry Longwell is a noted speaker and industry expert who brings a perspective on the world of oil and gas that few others can,” said Charlie Richards, 2002 OTC Chairman. “OTC is proud to have him as part of this year’s conference.”

Longwell, who began his career with the company almost 40 years ago as a drilling engineer, was named to his current post in August 2001. He had served as a Senior Vice President and Director since 1995. His responsibilities include the Corporation's worldwide upstream oil and natural gas activities, ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company, Imperial Oil Limited, aviation and human resources.

After graduating from Louisiana State University in 1963 with a petroleum engineering degree, Longwell began his career with Exxon as a drilling engineer in Exxon USA's production office in New Orleans. After a number of engineering and supervisory assignments in Louisiana, California and Texas, Longwell was named Operations Manager in Corpus Christi in 1974. Later that year, he moved to Exxon USA's Western Production Division in Los Angeles as Operations Manager with responsibility for Exxon's producing interests in Alaska, and in 1977 he became Division Manager.

Longwell served as Operations Manager in the Production Department of Exxon USA in Houston from 1980 to 1983, when he was named Vice President for the department with responsibility for the company's U.S. production activities.

In 1986 he moved to London as Vice President of Exploration and Production in Europe. He returned to the U.S. later that year as Executive Assistant to the Chairman and the President of Exxon Corporation in New York. Longwell became Vice President of Exploration and Production for Exxon Company International in 1987, Senior Vice President in 1988, and Executive Vice President in 1990. He was named President of Exxon Company USA in 1992. He was elected a Senior Vice President of the Corporation effective 1 January 1995, and was elected a Director in October 1995..

Longwell is a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S.-China Business Council, the LSU Foundation, the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering, and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. He also is a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the Advisory Board of the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity. Longwell is a member of the American Petroleum Institute and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Founded in 1969, the Offshore Technology Conference is the world’s foremost event for the development of offshore resources in the fields of drilling, exploration, production and environmental protection.
