PANEL SESSION:
TECHNOLOGY AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: THE ROLE OF UNIVERSITIES AND INDUSTRY

Moderator:

  • Giorgio de Tomi, USP (Universidade de Sao Paulo, Brazil)

Panelists:

  • Ram Shenoy, Schlumberger
  • John C. Bartos, Cameron
  • Ken Herd, GE
  • Sergio Bordalo, ABPG (Brazilian Association of Petroleum and Gas)

To support the increase in global energy demands, more offshore petroleum field developments are needed. Sometimes developments involve petroleum production from complex reservoirs located under deep- and ultra- deepwater depths. In remote areas with severe environmental conditions, in the case of pre-salt petroleum reservoirs, like in Brazil, aggressive fluid components are needed.

A large contingent of qualified and trained personnel are sought to work in global petroleum developments. For petroleum resources development that are one of the main objective of   the country, such is happening in Brazil, not only is technology needed but also well prepared professionals to overcome the challenges of the goals.

This session presents the necessities of personnel for the petroleum industry, service and equipment suppliers, and the experience of training and education institutions to face such demands.
