MacDermid Offshore Solutions has developed a Subsea Hydraulic Control Fluid, Oceanic XT900, capable of reaching a down-hole temperature of 220 degrees C (428 degrees F). Production control fluids deliver power to operate down-hole safety valves, allowing the flow of oil and gas from hydrocarbon reservoirs. The fluid has been tested for six months at 220°C and has been qualified in accordance with the industry standard for subsea control fluids, ISO 13628-6 Annex C. This product significantly exceeds the capability of any other proven fluid on the market today.
The fluid is biodegradable and enables the sustainable development of ultra-high temperature wells and reservoirs previously inaccessible to equipment manufacturers and operators. The full economic impact of this technology is known only to operators, and could significantly impact the value and accessibility of known reservoirs currently. Drilling campaigns may seek even deeper wells both on and offshore due to this technology, and the fluid has the ability to unlock potential value for secure, reliable energy in deep ultra-high temperature wells.
Oceanic XT900 (eXtreme Temperature) control fluid is a natural extension of MacDermid Offshore Solutions’ Oceanic HW (High Water) product line, leading the offshore fluids industry with green products since 1979.
