Climate change is considered a major issue in the scientific, economic, political, and media communities, but the causes and consequences of climate change are not fully understood. This panel is intended to provide an understanding of the scientific basis of climate change, including the data, methodology, and interpretations of the scientific evidence. Globally recognized experts on this subject will be invited to present their views and discuss their observations with the audience.

GENERAL SESSION PANEL: ARCTIC ENERGY CHALLENGES AND DEVELOPMENTS

Energy developments in the arctic regions encompass unique challenges that are specific to these latitudes. Industry personnel must carry out the exploration, and the development and the production of hydrocarbon reserves with equipment and materials made to work in an extreme environmental situation that further impact human resources, health and safety. Logistics teams face challenges at every juncture in these remote and harsh areas.
The challenges are also commercial, depending, at least in part, on the legal and political environment of the host country. The lack of societal and cultural acceptance may require a major investment of efforts. Budgets are likely to require higher numbers, mandating a cautious business approach with an educated and detailed assessment of the balance between risk and reward.
The panel comprised of a multi-national group of key figure of our industry will address the growing opportunities that this exploration can offer and how the rewards far outweigh the risks. Specifically, you will hear first hand how the various players from the world of operator, contractor, government and independent consultant, assess and take on the challenges of energy developments in the Arctic region.

INVITED ORGANIZATION: RESEARCH PARTNERSHIP TO SECURE ENERGY FOR AMERICA (RPSEA)
The Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA) is a 501(c)(3) privately-funded research program competitively selected by the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory as the managing consortium of the Ultra-Deepwater and Unconventional Natural Gas and Other Petroleum Resources Research and Development Program of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct). The 10-year, $375 million contract is designed to enable the development of the new technologies necessary to produce more secure, abundant and affordable domestic energy supplies. Headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas, RPSEA is an industry led research and development cooperative network of more than 145 natural gas and oil experts that includes operators, service companies, universities, national laboratories, nonprofits and state associations working together in an open, innovative framework. This collaboration succeeds in identifying, funding and facilitating the development of the most appropriate and necessary research to maximize the value of our domestic resources by increasing supply, reducing cost, increasing efficiency of production and exploration, improving safety and minimizing environmental impacts.
