Because the oil and gas industry has to substantially expand its production to meet increased global demand, the business model will have to change to ensure better efficiency and guarantee sustainability.
Views on sustainable development, new business development, the role of National Oil Companies, and the reshaping of industry relationships will be debated and discussed.

Ron Mobed, President and Chief Operating Officer, IHS Energy
Ron Mobed is energy president and chief operating officer of IHS, where he has been instrumental in helping the company transition its offerings and expanding its services to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
Prior to joining IHS, Mobed was with Schlumberger for 22 years. There he served in multiple executive leadership roles including vice president of GeoQuest Asia and vice president and general manager of information management for GeoQuest, as well as other sales, marketing, consulting, and management positions.
Mobed has a wide range of US and international experience in the energy industry with a diverse background in operations, product management, software development, marketing, professional services, and information technology. He has authored papers on subjects including gas exploration technologies, petrophysical interpretation, data and knowledge management in oil and gas, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning.
Mobed holds a BS degree in engineering from Trinity College at the University of Cambridge and an MS degree with distinction in petroleum engineering from Imperial College at the University of London. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts.

Patrick Pouyanné, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Business Development, and R&D, Total E&P Patrick Pouyanné was named senior vice president of strategy, business development, and research and development for Total Exploration & Production in early 2006. Pouyanné joined Total Exploration & Production in 1997, as company secretary in Angola. He was later appointed as president of operations in Qatar and then vice president of finance, economics, and information technology. Before joining Total, Pouyanné held a variety of positions with the French Ministry of Industry. Pouyanné holds degrees from the Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines in Paris. |
Jean Claude Gandur is the president and chief executive officer for Addax Petroleum. Gandur is one of the founders of the Addax & Oryx Group, of which he is chief executive officer and chairman of the advisory board. He is also the non-executive chairman of AXMIN. Throughout his career, Gandur has worked with major commodity traders including Philipp Brothers, Sigmoil Resources, and Kaines. For 10 years, he was honorary consul for the Republic of Congo in Geneva. He has also been awarded a diplomatic passport by Senegal. Gandur has received the decorations of Grand Officer of the Lion Order of Senegal and Commander of the National Order of Benin. He studied law at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. |
Mark Lee was appointed chief executive officer of SustainAbility in November 2005 after joining the company as a director of the US business in January 2004. He is responsible for creating a culture and providing the resources required for SustainAbility’s team to achieve its ambitious change agenda. Previously, Lee served as vice president at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) in San Francisco. Lee began his career at VanCity Savings where he served as manager, corporate social responsibility. Lee holds a BA degree in political science and English from the University of British Columbia. He also participated in graduate studies in community economic development at Simon Fraser University, is an alumnus of the Business Development Program at Haas Berkeley, andwas named by Ethisphere Magazine as one of the Most Influential People in Business Ethics for 2007. |
Emmanuel Egbogah is currently serving as special adviser on petroleum matters to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He has over 35 years of diversified geological and petroleum engineering experience Canada, the US, the North Sea, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific Region. Egbogah is founder and executive chairman of Emerald Energy Resources. Previously, he served eight years as technical advisor and technology custodian for PETRONAS and five years as enhanced oil recovery advisor for the Libyan National Oil Corporation, Tripoli. He has also worked with Niko Resources, Amerigo International, and Applied Geosciences and Technology Consultants. Egbogah is a registered professional engineer of Alberta, Canada. |
Thierry Pilenko was appointed chairman and chief executive officer for Technip in April 2007 after joining the company in January. Pilenko spent 20 years with Schlumberger, where he gained vast oil and gas engineering and international experience in Venezuela, Italy, Gabon, Nigeria, Dubai, Indonesia, the United States, and France. In 2004, Pilenko became chairman and chief executive officer of Veritas, a geophysical services company based in Houston that merged with Compagnie Générale de Géophysique. Pilenko is a graduate of The Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie and the Ecole du Pétrole et des Moteurs. |
Robert (Bobby) Ryan, Jr., was appointed vice president exploration for global upstream and gas for Chevron in September 2003. In this capacity he is responsible for the worldwide exploration portfolio as well as corporate reserves governance and reporting. Ryan began his career with Texaco in 1979 as a geologist and held a variety of earth science and supervisory positions in both exploration and production before being appointed as area manager in 1989. In 1990, through the President's Commission on Executive Exchange in the White House, Ryan was appointed staff assistant in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Conservation and Renewable Energy in the US Department of Energy, where he assisted with utility policy issues related to renewable energy and energy efficiency. Ryan returned to Texaco in 1991. In late 1999, Ryan was appointed vice president of special projects in the office of the chairman of Texaco with responsibilities for a global reengineering project designed to improve Texaco's major business systems and processes. Upon the formation of ChevronTexaco in October 2001, he was named general manager of exploration for overseas petroleum, responsible for exploration outside of North America. Ryan is vice chairman of the Board of Advisors of the Energy & Geoscience Institute at the University of Utah, a member of the School of Earth Sciences Advisory Board at Stanford University, chairman of the Corporate Advisory Board of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Cambridge Arctic Shelf Program at the Department of Earth Sciences at Cambridge University. He earned BS and MS degrees in geology from Tulane University. |
Prior to founding Triple Double Advisors, an investment advisory firm, Art Smith was the Chairman and CEO of John S. Herold. Smith gained experience in oil industry analysis and corporate finance serving with Argus Research, First Boston, and Oppenheimer. He holds the CFA designation and is a former appointee to the National Petroleum Council. Smith is active in Independent Petroleum Association of America, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, and the CFA Society of Houston. He currently serves on the boards of Plains All American Pipeline and non-profit Dress for Success® Houston. He also serves on the Board of Visitors of Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences. Smith earned a bachelor’s degree from Duke University and an MBA from the New York University Stern School of Business. |
