Call for Papers
Deadline for Submissions: 7 September 2007
Dear Colleagues,
Generational changes can be profound. Consider the everyday appliances your parents and grandparents used. They are nothing like the high tech devices that we now take for granted (but which were unheard of only 5 years ago). The same is true for the offshore E&P industry. The 2008 OTC will be the 39th year of this conference. In 39 years, the industry has seen at least one, and in most cases more, generational shifts in technology and science (to cite just one example: we talk of 5th generation rigs). Every aspect of the offshore has progressed by leaps and bounds – so it’s definitely not your parent’s oil industry – and the pace of change is accelerating. We are truly riding Waves of Change that continue to shape our industry.
It is quite an honor to serve as the Program Committee chairperson for OTC 2008. OTC draws huge attendance and huge attention from the global industry. We are committed to providing the finest technical program in the world, sharing our experiences and knowledge for the benefit of the industry. I am pleased to offer a call for papers for OTC 2008, asking you and your colleagues to submit paper proposals that offer the latest engineering and science breakthroughs and explain how these impact our offshore business globally. I also encourage you to submit proposals that address current and future technologies driving our industry in 2008 and beyond.
The 2008 theme, Waves of Change, expresses that our industry is in a time of major change, not just in the area of technology but in personnel and equipment shortages, rising demand, increased technical challenges with projects getting bigger and pushing into ever deeper water, increased cost structure, and the ever-increasing push for alternative energy sources, among others. Please refer to the list of areas in which papers are encouraged. Paper proposals will be accepted online from 8 June to 7 September 2007.
Thank you for helping make OTC the premier venue to present and discuss papers on all aspects of the offshore oil and gas industry. I look forward to seeing you in Houston 5–8 May 2008.
Sincerely,
Dan Orange
OTC 2008 Program Committee Chairman
