Panelist: Fatih Birol

Fatih BirolFatih Birol is the chief economist and head of the economic analysis division of the Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA). He is also the organizer and director of the World Energy Outlook series, IEA’s flagship publication. Birol is responsible for briefing the executive office and governing board of the IEA on the economic impact of energy market and industry developments, such as the impact of higher oil prices on the world economy.

Birol worked for six years in the secretariat of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in Vienna before joining the IEA in 1995. He currently teaches energy economics at universities in Austria and Germany, regularly contributes articles on international energy analysis and policy to technical journals, and delivers numerous speeches around the world each year.

Birol earned a BSc degree in power engineering from the Technical University of Istanbul. He earned MSc and PhD degrees in energy economics from the Technical University of Vienna.
