Buford Pollett is a senior counsel with Technip France and his responsibilities include oil and gas EPCI contracts in Norway, West Africa and the Middle East along with engineering contracts for an affiliate in the United Kingdom. Prior to his assignment in Paris with Technip France, he worked on EPCI contracts for Technip Offshore in Houston, Texas. In addition to being a licensed attorney in Louisiana and Texas, he is also a Texas Licensed Geologist. His energy experience includes work with Entergy, Amoco, Texaco, Nabors and a Shell and Exxon Joint Venture in Germany (BEB Erdoel und Erdgas).
Daniel Orange, AOA Geophysics Inc.

Daniel Orange is president and CEO of AOA Geophysics Inc., a consulting firm to the upstream oil and gas industry. Since joining AOA, Orange and his group have worked on some of the most challenging seafloor geohazard projects in the industry and they have also evaluated (and opened up) the hydrocarbon prospectivity of frontier basins in deepwater provinces worldwide. Orange is an expert in the use of manned and unmanned submersibles as field vehicles, using seafloor data (bathymetry, side scan) as base maps for field work and the integration of seismic data for 3D process control. He has held positions at University of California Santa Cruz, Stanford University and the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute. In these positions, Orange continued to push the application of seafloor mapping techniques and ground-truthing to the prediction and evaluation of seafloor seepage, including seepage in hydrocarbon-prone basins.
He holds an undergraduate and master’s degrees in earth, atmospheric and planetary science from MIT and a PhD in geology and geophysics from the University of California Santa Cruz.

Paul Barshop, COO, Independent Project Analysis

Paul Barshop is the chief operating officer of Independent Project Analysis (IPA). He joined IPA in 1994 as a project analyst and was IPA’s quality manager from 1997 to 1999. From 2000 until mid-2004, he was the director of IPA’s Netherlands office. IPA Netherlands is responsible for serving clients in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. As a project analyst, Barshop focused on evaluating downstream process projects, especially in the petroleum and chemical areas. He led numerous benchmarking efforts and conducted over 75 individual analyses of capital projects. He also led research to understand the performance and drivers of control system projects. His latest research effort was the study of the effectiveness of engineering value centers. Prior to joining IPA, Barshop worked for Shell Oil in the United States. He holds a master’s degree in business and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
Pat Galloway, PE CEO, Nielsen-Wurster Group Inc.

Pat Galloway serves as CEO of the Nielsen-Wurster Group, an international management consulting firm which serves the oil and gas industry. For nearly 30 years Dr. Galloway has been actively involved in both onshore and offshore projects providing risk management, management consulting and dispute resolution advice, including expert witness testimony on matters concerning senior management, project management, project controls and delay and cost overruns. Dr. Galloway is an internationally recognized leader in civil engineering and construction and in November 2003 was inducted as the first woman president (2003-2004) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) where engineering and construction ethics was one of the key focus areas of her presidency. She has extensive international experience having traveled to nearly 90 countries and works extensively world-wide for Owners, Contractors and Engineering companies in nearly 60 countries. She holds several awards including The National Academy of Construction, Purdue Distinguished Engineering Alumni and Engineering News Record Top Women in Construction. She sits on the Purdue Dean’s Advisory Board and both the International and Engineering Directorate Advisory Boards of the National Science Foundation.
Peter R. Rose, President, AAPG

Peter R. Rose is currently AAPG’s 89th president. He is also senior associate in the consulting firm, Rose & Associates, LLP (R&A), which he founded in 1998. The firm is a recognized international leader in risk analysis of exploration and development petroleum ventures. In 1980, he established his own independent oil and gas consulting firm, Telegraph Exploration, Inc. His clients include most major US companies and many prominent independents as well as many international firms and state oil companies. Rose is a certified petroleum geologist who has explored for oil and gas in most North American geological provinces and has published and lectured widely on U.S. resource assessment, basin analysis, play development, prospect evaluation and risk and uncertainty in exploration. He has taught extensively at the professional level and was a 1985/1986 AAPG Distinguished Lecturer. He received the coveted Parker Memorial Medal from the American Institute of Professional Geologists in 1998 and was awarded Honorary Membership in AAPG in 2002. He holds BS, MA and PhD degrees in geology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Lorne Thomas, Captain, U.S. Coast Guard Office of Operating and Environmental Standards

Captain Thomas is currently the office chief, Operating and Environmental Standards at US Coast Guard Headquarters. He has 22 years in the service with assignments afloat and at marine safety units in New York, San Francisco and Wilmington, North Carolina and most recently as commanding officer at the Marine Safety Office in Cleveland. His office develops and maintains standards regulating the marine industry through treaties, regulations and policy and represents the US in national and international fora, including the International Maritime Organization (IMO). His office is also responsible for establishing safety and security standards for LNG vessels and facilities and processing applications for Deepwater Ports for LNG. He is a graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy and holds a post graduate degree from The George Washington University.
Alan Boeckmann, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Fluor Corporation

Alan Boeckmann is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Fluor Corporation. Prior to assuming his current position in February 2002, Boeckmann served as president and chief operating officer of Fluor since January 2001. He has served as president and chief executive officer of various Fluor Daniel business groups as well as vice president of the company's business unit that formed its DuPont alliance. Since joining Fluor in 1974 as an engineer, Boeckmann has also held various management positions, including assignments in California, Texas, South Carolina, South Africa and Venezuela. Active in a variety of business and professional organizations, Boeckmann serves as chairman of the Engineering and Construction Governors of The World Economic Forum and as a director of the American Petroleum Institute, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the National Petroleum Council. He is a member of the Business Roundtable, the World Economic Forum and the University of Arizona’s College of Engineering & Mines’ Industry Advisory Council. Boeckmann graduated from the University of Arizona, with a degree in electrical engineering.
Scott Tinker, Bureau of Economic Geology, U. of Texas

Scott W. Tinker is director of the Bureau of Economic Geology, the University of Texas at Austin, the state geologist of Texas and the Edwin Allday Endowed Chair in the Jackson School of Geosciences. Before coming to the University of Texas, Tinker spent 18 years working in the oil and gas industry. Tinker is a former AAPG (1997) and SPE (2002) Distinguished Lecturer and current AAPG International Distinguished Ethics Lecturer. He is the president elect of the AASG, sits on the NRC Board on Energy and Environmental Systems and Trinity University Board of Visitors. Tinker’s degrees are from the University of Colorado, the University of Michigan and Trinity University.
