Lessons Learned From Major Offshore Incidents

When it comes to major offshore incidents, the oil and gas industry’s global track is relatively good. However, incidents and accidents do occur in this business, and the potential for huge catastrophes is always present. Lessons need to be taken from history in order to reduce the likelihood of future major accidents. The industry faces a continuous challenge of how best to incorporate these lessons learned, combined with a continuous focus on managing risk in order to improve return to stakeholders both directly and indirectly. This presentation will share broad independent perspective of lessons learned both old and new.
Speaker Profile
Miklos Konkoly-Thege serves as president and CEO of DNV. In 2002, he was appointed chairman of DNV’s Executive Board and has held several Board positions at DNV. Since 1984, Konkoly-Thege has been a member of DNV’s Executive Board, with various responsibilities including those of Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Controller as well as Head of Corporate Management Staff and Head of Business Areas. Konkoly-Thege was Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Norway from 1997-2003. Until 1990 he was a reserve Second Lieutenant in the Royal Norwegian Army. Before joining DNV, he was president and chief executive officer of Tandberg AS, Kjeller, Norway. Prior to this position, he was a financial manager in International Telephone & Telegraph Inc. Konkoly-Thege is a civil engineer MSc from Technische Universität in Hannover ( Hanover Technical University), Germany. He also holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota, USA.
